I began playing guitar in 2015. In the 8+ years that I’ve been playing, my abilities and interests in playing music from various genres have grown considerably. I’ve learned techniques and studied music theory which have allowed me to grow as a musician.
My musical taste is geared towards classic rock. I like late 60s and 70s rock mainly; when music was made with real instruments. Browse some of my Featured Performances and you can quickly surmise that some of my favorite bands through the years have included Santana, Led Zeppelin, and of course I can’t leave out Black Sabbath with Tony Iommi being the riff master. In addition to rock, I’ve grown a strong liking for Jazz (straight-ahead and fusion) from greats such as John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, John McLaughlin… which has been the catalyst that opened up my appreciation and my skills in playing varied and complex chord progressions and improvisation.
In 2022, I decided to share what I’ve learned by venturing into part-time teaching introductory guitar classes for beginners. As a guitar instructor, I focus on providing students a solid foundation of guitar knowledge through customized lesson plans designed to accommodate their abilities.
I was introduced to “real” rock by my father. He was an 80s kid who grew up listening to a lot of the bands that I love now. He educated me on what made classic rock really special. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. I watched a lot of music videos where the guitarists looked so cool and the guitar solos were epic. I quickly realized that I wanted to learn to play an instrument, guitar to be specific. I begged my dad to buy me a guitar. I remember him telling me: “Dominic, if we were to buy you a guitar, you would have to take guitar lessons…that it would be a big commitment and you would have to promise to stick with it.” I was ready and agreed. That’s how it all started.
